About the Role
The Green Environment and Climate Change Initiative (GRENCHI) is seeking a dedicated and hands-on Field Operations & Restoration Officer to drive our environmental conservation and climate action projects across Nigeria. Key Responsibilities- Lead all on-ground restoration activities, including seed germination, potting, seedling care, and hardening-off at GRENCHI community nurseries.
- Physically inspect planting sites to monitor survival rates, diagnose causes of dieback, and coordinate necessary replanting efforts.
- Coordinate the transport of seedlings, tools, and materials to project sites while working alongside day labourers and volunteers.
- Engage with community leaders, schools, and smallholder farmers to mobilise participation in agroforestry training and tree planting.
- Provide practical, hands-on technical guidance and demonstrate proper planting and maintenance techniques in the field.
- Maintain accurate field records regarding planting numbers, survival rates, site conditions, and contribute to monitoring reports.
- Ensure compliance with GRENCHI safety practices and environmental regulations during all field operations.
- Bachelor's Degree or HND in Forestry, Wildlife, Ecology, Agriculture, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- 1 to 3 years of hands-on experience in ecological restoration, nursery management, or field-based agricultural activities.
- Practical knowledge of seed germination, potting, seedling hardening-off, and diagnosing common causes of plant loss.
- Fluency in both English and Igbo is required for effective community engagement.
- Basic proficiency in using GPS tools and mobile data collection applications such as KoboCollect.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to work collaboratively alongside rural communities and smallholder farmers.
