About the Role
Iconic Open University, a leading private open and distance learning institution licensed by the National Universities Commission (NUC), is currently inviting applications from suitably qualified academics to serve as External Examiner for our undergraduate and postgraduate Accounting programmes. As part of our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of academic quality, integrity, and excellence, external examiners play a crucial role in moderating assessments, ensuring curriculum rigor, and upholding global best practices in open and distance education.
Key Responsibilities- Review and moderate examination question papers, marking schemes, and continuous assessment materials to ensure academic rigor and alignment with learning outcomes.
- Evaluate student scripts, dissertations, and theses to ensure fair, consistent, and transparent grading standards.
- Provide comprehensive external examiner reports to the university leadership on academic standards, student performance, and areas for curriculum enhancement.
- Participate in virtual board of examiners meetings and contribute to quality assurance processes.
- Ensure compliance with NUC guidelines and open and distance learning pedagogical standards.
- Academic Rank: Must not be below the rank of Senior Lecturer, with preference given to Readers and Professors.
- Educational Qualification: Must possess a minimum of a PhD Degree in Accounting or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
- Experience: Demonstrated track record of postgraduate supervision, research publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals, and prior experience as an external examiner.
- Independence: Must have no conflict of interest or recent institutional affiliation with Iconic Open University.
- ODL Expertise: Experience within an Open and Distance Learning environment and familiarity with virtual examination platforms is highly preferred.
