About the Role
The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is seeking a reliable, professional, and experienced Driver to join our dynamic team in Plateau State. In this role, you will play a crucial part in supporting our award-winning agricultural research for development (R4D) initiatives by ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of staff, visitors, and project materials. You will be part of a renowned international nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing hunger, malnutrition, and poverty across Africa through impactful scientific research and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities- Provide safe and timely transportation for project staff, consultants, partners, and visitors in support of field activities.
- Transport project materials, equipment, and supplies safely to designated field locations and rural destinations.
- Ensure assigned vehicles are clean, roadworthy, and maintained strictly in accordance with IITA policies and manufacturer guidelines.
- Conduct thorough daily vehicle inspections and promptly report mechanical faults, accidents, or maintenance requirements.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date vehicle logbooks, fuel consumption records, maintenance logs, and trip documentation.
- Ensure timely vehicle servicing, repairs, insurance renewals, and licensing in collaboration with the administrative unit.
- Observe all traffic regulations and demonstrate safe driving practices at all times.
- Support logistical arrangements for trainings, workshops, stakeholder meetings, and field visits.
- Ensure the security and proper handling of passengers, project documents, and equipment during transit.
- Assist with loading and unloading project materials and perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.
- Minimum of a Secondary School Certificate; additional training in vehicle maintenance is a strong advantage.
- Possession of a valid driver’s licence appropriate to the required vehicle class and a clean driving record.
- A minimum of 3 years of professional driving experience, preferably working with an NGO, government agency, or corporate organization.
- Exceptional knowledge of roads and routes within Plateau State, including remote and rural areas.
- Strong commitment to road safety, high integrity, professionalism, and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Physical fitness and willingness to travel frequently to remote project locations.
