About the Role

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is seeking an experienced, reliable, and professional Driver to join our team in Oyo. In this vital role, you will provide safe and efficient transportation for project staff, consultants, and visitors, while ensuring the proper handling and maintenance of institutional vehicles in support of our mission to reduce poverty, hunger, and malnutrition in Africa.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide safe, reliable, and timely transportation for project staff, partners, and visitors in support of field activities and official engagements.
  • Transport project materials, equipment, and supplies safely to designated field locations and remote areas.
  • Ensure assigned vehicles are clean, roadworthy, and maintained strictly in accordance with IITA policies and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Conduct thorough daily vehicle inspections and promptly report any mechanical faults, accidents, or maintenance needs.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date vehicle logbooks, fuel consumption records, and trip documentation.
  • Coordinate timely servicing, repairs, insurance renewals, and vehicle licensing with the appropriate administrative unit.
  • Strictly observe all traffic regulations and demonstrate safe driving practices at all times.
  • Support logistical arrangements for workshops, trainings, and stakeholder meetings, including loading and unloading materials.
  • Maintain utmost confidentiality and professionalism regarding all passenger and institutional matters.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of a Secondary School Certificate; additional training in basic vehicle maintenance is a strong advantage.
  • A valid driver’s licence appropriate for the required vehicle class and a clean driving record.
  • At least 3 years of professional driving experience, preferably within an NGO, international organization, or corporate setting.
  • Strong knowledge of local routes, state geography, and rural terrain within Nigeria.
  • Basic troubleshooting and vehicle maintenance skills, coupled with physical fitness for frequent travel.
  • Excellent interpersonal abilities, a courteous demeanor, and high standards of integrity and reliability.
