About the Role
The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is seeking a skilled and reliable Driver to join our team in Ogun State. As a key member of our logistics unit, you will support our award-winning research-for-development (R4D) initiatives aimed at reducing poverty and enhancing food security across Africa by providing safe and efficient transportation services.
Key Responsibilities- Provide safe and timely transportation for project staff, consultants, partners, and visitors in support of field activities.
- Transport project materials, equipment, and supplies securely to various field locations and designated destinations.
- Ensure assigned vehicles are clean, roadworthy, and maintained in accordance with IITA policies and manufacturer standards.
- Conduct daily vehicle inspections and promptly report mechanical faults, accidents, or routine maintenance requirements.
- Maintain accurate vehicle logbooks, fuel consumption records, maintenance logs, and trip documentation.
- Observe all traffic regulations and maintain defensive driving practices across urban and rural routes.
- Support logistical arrangements for trainings, workshops, field visits, and stakeholder meetings.
- Assist with loading and unloading project materials while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality at all times.
- Minimum of a Secondary School Certificate (SSCE); additional training in vehicle maintenance is an added advantage.
- Possession of a valid driver's license appropriate to the vehicle class with a clean driving record.
- At least 3 years of professional driving experience, preferably within an NGO, government agency, or reputable corporate organization.
- Excellent knowledge of roads, routes, and terrain within Ogun State and surrounding districts, including rural areas.
- Strong commitment to road safety, basic vehicle troubleshooting skills, and physical fitness to travel frequently to remote locations.
