About the Role
The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is seeking a professional, safety-conscious Driver to join our team in Abuja. In this role, you will play a vital part in our mission to enhance food security and reduce poverty in Africa by providing reliable transportation for staff, consultants, and project materials. We are looking for a dedicated individual with a strong commitment to road safety and excellent geographical knowledge to support our impactful agricultural research and development initiatives across Nigeria.
Key Responsibilities- Provide safe and timely transportation for project staff, consultants, partners, and visitors in support of field activities.
- Transport project materials, equipment, and supplies safely to designated field locations and regional destinations.
- Ensure assigned vehicles are consistently clean, roadworthy, and maintained in accordance with IITA policies and manufacturer guidelines.
- Conduct thorough daily vehicle inspections and promptly report mechanical faults, accidents, or maintenance needs.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date vehicle logbooks, fuel consumption records, and trip documentation.
- Coordinate timely servicing, repairs, insurance renewals, and licensing of assigned vehicles with the administrative unit.
- Observe all traffic regulations and demonstrate safe driving practices at all times.
- Assist with logistical arrangements for workshops, trainings, stakeholder meetings, and frequent field visits.
- Ensure the security and proper handling of passengers, documents, and cargo during transit, assisting with loading and unloading when necessary.
- Minimum of a Secondary School Certificate; additional vocational training in basic vehicle maintenance is a strong advantage.
- A valid driver's license appropriate to the required vehicle class and a clean, verifiable driving record.
- At least 3 years of professional driving experience, preferably within an NGO, international organization, or reputable corporate establishment.
- Exceptional knowledge of roads, traffic regulations, and routes within Abuja and surrounding rural districts.
- Demonstrated physical fitness, high integrity, strong communication skills, and the willingness to travel frequently to remote locations.
