BBC Media Action is looking for a dynamic and experienced Digital Journalist to join our team in Nigeria. You will play a crucial role in creating accurate, engaging, and SEO-friendly news content for the BBC Hausa website and social media channels. Working across multiple platforms, you will help amplify stories that matter to Hausa-speaking audiences in Nigeria and West Africa while upholding the highest editorial standards.
Key Responsibilities- Create and publish accurate, engaging, and SEO-friendly news content for the BBC Hausa website under tight deadlines.
- Produce, present, shoot, and edit short-form video content for YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook.
- Develop compelling social media strategies to drive audience engagement, reach, and content discovery.
- Respond swiftly to breaking news while maintaining a steady flow of verified content across digital platforms.
- Utilize audience analytics and performance insights to optimize content decisions and improve digital output.
- Contribute to visualised radio programming, presenting confidently on-air and on-screen for broadcast and streaming.
- Repurpose live radio and interview content into engaging digital clips to maximize reach.
- Proven experience creating multi-platform digital, social, radio, and video content.
- Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills in Hausa, with strong SEO awareness.
- Strong video production skills, including self-shooting, editing, and presenting for social platforms.
- Familiarity with audience analytics, metadata, headlines, and thumbnails to drive discoverability.
- Ability to source, verify, and report news impartially, including handling breaking news and user-generated content.
- Fluency in both Hausa and English, with deep knowledge of the Nigerian socio-political and cultural landscape.
