About the Role
PATH is a global health nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and driving health innovation, particularly for women and children. We are currently seeking an entry-level Consultant: Infectious Disease Surveillance Pilot Field Officer for the STRengthening Infectious disease DEtection Systems (STRIDES) Project in Nigeria. This initiative strengthens surveillance, detection, and analytical capacity for infectious diseases across human and animal health sectors. You will conduct rapid assessments, map existing surveillance platforms, and provide actionable recommendations to improve national health security.
Key Responsibilities- Support the scale-up of event-based and community-based surveillance systems in assigned states, including early warning mechanisms.
- Assist in adapting and rolling out training materials for EBS, CBS, IDSR, and zoonotic disease preparedness.
- Contribute to updating standard operating procedures (SOPs), guidelines, and communication tools for enhanced surveillance.
- Provide mentorship, refresher sessions, and practical support to trained health workers and local partners.
- Assist in monitoring digital health information systems, data entry, validation, and basic epidemiological analysis.
- Coordinate with state-level counterparts and generate comprehensive reports, meeting minutes, and field visit summaries.
- Bachelor degree in Public Health, Nursing, Medicine, Epidemiology, Health Information Systems, Biology, Microbiology, Veterinary Science, or Environmental Health.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience, including internships and fellowships, in infectious disease surveillance or One Health coordination.
- Completion of a Frontline Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) or familiarity with IDSR and NADIS is a strong advantage.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic digital data collection tools.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English with the ability to collaborate effectively with government stakeholders.
- Must be based in or willing to relocate to Adamawa, Enugu, Kano, or Lagos, with willingness to travel locally.
