We are currently seeking a dynamic and qualified professional to join our team as the Deputy Chief Technologist within the Department of University Laboratories, Laboratory Technical Services. In this vital role, you will provide high-level technical leadership, oversee complex laboratory operations, and ensure a safe, well-resourced environment that facilitates world-class teaching and research activities for both students and faculty members across our campuses.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise and coordinate daily laboratory technical operations, maintenance, and servicing of advanced scientific equipment.
- Support academic staff in delivering practical laboratory sessions, demonstrations, and undergraduate or postgraduate research projects.
- Enforce strict health, safety, and quality assurance protocols in compliance with regulatory standards and university policies.
- Manage laboratory inventory, procurement of reagents, and routine calibration of scientific instruments.
- Train, mentor, and evaluate junior laboratory staff and technical personnel to foster a culture of efficiency and continuous professional growth.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation including standard operating procedures, equipment logs, and safety audit reports.
- Possession of a relevant Bachelor's degree, Higher National Diploma (HND), or recognized equivalent professional qualification in a relevant laboratory science discipline.
- Current active registration and licensing with relevant professional bodies where applicable.
- Demonstrated progressive post-qualification work experience in a tertiary institution or accredited research laboratory environment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of modern laboratory equipment handling, safety regulations, and quality assurance frameworks.
- Strong communication, organizational, administrative, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a diverse academic community.
