About the Role
Flutterwave is seeking a highly analytical and technically driven Data Scientist to join our dynamic Risk team in Lagos. As a fintech leader powering Africa's digital economy, detecting anomalies and mitigating risk at scale is paramount to our continued success and growth. In this role, you will help transition our risk capabilities from reactive analytics to proactive predictive modeling by designing, training, and deploying robust machine learning solutions.
Key Responsibilities- Design, develop, and optimize machine learning models focused on fraud detection, transaction monitoring, and risk mitigation.
- Collect, clean, and analyze massive transactional datasets to identify predictive features and emerging fraud trends.
- Partner directly with Engineering and MLOps teams to deploy models into production, monitoring performance and data drift.
- Translate complex model outputs into actionable business rules that balance fraud prevention with user friction.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to validate data accuracy and integrity across all risk pipelines.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of model architectures and training datasets to support regulatory compliance and audits.
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, or a related quantitative field.
- 3 to 5 years of proven experience as a Data Scientist building and deploying machine learning models in production.
- Mandatory experience working within the fintech or payments industry.
- Strong programming skills in Python and SQL, with deep proficiency in ML libraries such as Scikit-Learn, XGBoost, LightGBM, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
- Experience with cloud data warehouses like Redshift, Snowflake, or BigQuery.
