About the Role
Center for Civilians in Conflict (CIVIC) is dedicated to safeguarding people caught in conflict zones, ensuring civilian loss is neither forgotten nor overlooked. We are seeking a visionary Country Director to provide executive leadership for our Nigeria and Lake Chad Basin portfolio. In this pivotal role, you will shape our regional strategy, spearhead resource mobilization, and champion civilian protection through high-level humanitarian diplomacy and engagement with security institutions and regional bodies like ECOWAS and the African Union.
Key Responsibilities- Provide overall executive leadership and strategic direction for CIVIC's Nigeria and Lake Chad portfolio, ensuring alignment with global strategies.
- Lead resource mobilization efforts, securing diversified funding from institutional donors such as the EU, FCDO, and U.S. Government agencies.
- Strengthen strategic engagement with security institutions, including the Nigerian Armed Forces and the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF).
- Represent CIVIC in high-level policy discussions with governments, donors, and regional institutions to promote Protection of Civilians (PoC) frameworks.
- Oversee financial management, compliance, and robust security management systems while fostering an inclusive, high-performing organizational culture.
- Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible experience in humanitarian protection, peacebuilding, stabilization, or human rights.
- Master's degree in International Relations, Conflict Studies, Political Science, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated expertise in Protection of Civilians (PoC), Civilian Harm Mitigation (CHM), and community-based protection approaches.
- Proven track record of securing multi-million-dollar institutional grants and managing complex regional portfolios.
- Exceptional diplomatic, negotiation, and strategic leadership skills with professional fluency in English.
