About the Role
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, independent medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters, and exclusion from healthcare. We are currently looking for a dedicated Counselor Educator to join our team in Nigeria, delivering high-quality psychosocial care and mental health education in alignment with our core humanitarian principles.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct intake, psychological assessments, and individual, family, or group counseling sessions for vulnerable patients, including survivors of sexual violence and maternity ward patients.
- Provide Psychological First Aid (PFA) and utilize Cognitive-Behavioural models to help patients build emotional resilience and effective coping mechanisms.
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary medical teams to ensure holistic patient care, treatment adherence, and appropriate referral pathways.
- Maintain strict patient confidentiality, manage daily documentation, and accurately update the Mental Health Database (MHDB) and weekly statistics.
- Participate in regular individual and group supervisions, skill-development trainings, and community awareness-raising activities alongside health promotion teams.
- Degree or recognized diploma in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or a related mental health field.
- Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in counseling, psychological first aid, or mental health support, preferably within an NGO or healthcare setting.
- Strong understanding of clinical confidentiality, ethical standards, and patient-centered care approaches.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and cross-cultural collaboration skills.
- Fluency in English and local languages relevant to the project location in Nigeria.
