About the Role
The University of Benin (UNIBEN) is seeking a qualified, dynamic, and compassionate professional to join our esteemed institution as a Counsellor II (CONTISS 07). In this vital role, you will help students navigate academic, personal, and social challenges, contributing positively to their overall university experience and mental well-being within a vibrant academic community in Edo State, Nigeria.
Key Responsibilities- Provide individual and group counselling sessions to students facing academic, personal, or emotional challenges.
- Assist students in developing effective coping strategies, time management skills, and study habits.
- Organize and facilitate workshops, seminars, and orientation programs on mental health, career planning, and personal development.
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records in compliance with professional standards and university policies.
- Collaborate with academic departments, faculty advisers, and student affairs units to identify and support students in distress.
- Refer students to specialized psychiatric or medical services when necessary and follow up on their progress.
- A good honours degree (minimum of Second Class Lower Division) in Guidance and Counselling or Social Work from a recognized university.
- Mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge or exemption certificate.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills.
- High level of empathy, emotional intelligence, and ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Good computer literacy and familiarity with student support software or administrative tools.
