About the Role

Jimoh Babalola University (JBU), a premium and fully licensed private higher education institution in Ilorin, Kwara State, is seeking a competent and compassionate Counsellor II to join its Student Affairs team. As a Counsellor II, you will work closely with students, faculty, and university management to provide guidance services that promote personal development, academic success, and overall student welfare. Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individual and group counselling services to students on academic, personal, social, and career-related issues
  • Design and implement guidance and counselling programmes that support student development and retention
  • Conduct orientation sessions for new students to help them adjust to university life
  • Assess students' needs and refer complex cases to appropriate specialists or external agencies where necessary
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of counselling sessions and student progress
  • Organise workshops, seminars, and awareness campaigns on mental health, stress management, and personal development
  • Collaborate with academic departments and university management to address student welfare concerns
  • Assist students with career guidance, goal setting, and decision-making processes
  • Prepare periodic reports on counselling activities and outcomes for university management

Qualifications
  • A University degree in Guidance and Counselling, Counselling Psychology, Psychology, or another closely related field
  • SSCE/GCE (O/L) or its equivalent with at least five credits in relevant subjects, including English Language and Mathematics
  • Evidence of completion of NYSC Discharge or Exemption Certificate
  • Computer literacy is required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Strong interpersonal, listening, and communication skills
  • Sound understanding of counselling ethics and confidentiality principles
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population
