About the Role
St. Columbanus Secondary School (SCOSSI), a prominent co-educational Catholic mission boarding school located in Ikwen, Obot Akara Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, is currently seeking skilled and dedicated Cooks to join our vibrant culinary team. Operating under the Catholic Diocese of Ikot Ekpene and founded in 1959, our institution is dedicated to holistic student development. We are looking for culinary professionals who take pride in preparing healthy, delicious meals in a high-volume institutional kitchen while maintaining the highest standards of hygiene, safety, and nutritional value for our boarding students and staff members.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and cook large quantities of diverse local and continental dishes in accordance with the school menu and nutritional guidelines.
- Ensure strict adherence to food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards in the kitchen and dining areas at all times.
- Inspect food supplies, ingredients, and kitchen equipment regularly to ensure freshness, quality, and proper working condition.
- Collaborate with the catering supervisor to manage inventory, reduce food waste, and plan balanced weekly meal schedules.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free workstation throughout and after food preparation activities.
- Supervise kitchen assistants and delegate daily meal-prep tasks effectively to ensure timely service delivery.
- Minimum of a Secondary School Certificate (SSCC) with formal training in catering, culinary arts, or hospitality management.
- Proven professional cooking experience, preferably within a boarding school, hotel, or large-scale institutional catering environment.
- Deep knowledge of local Nigerian cuisines, large-batch cooking techniques, and dietary menu planning.
- Strong commitment to kitchen hygiene, food safety regulations, and occupational health practices.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure, manage time effectively, and maintain a cooperative team spirit.
- Good communication skills and a high level of personal integrity and reliability.
