About the Role

Robert Walters is proud to partner with a leading oil and gas exploration and production company to recruit a strategic Commercial Manager in Nigeria. In this pivotal senior leadership role, you will be responsible for driving commercial value creation, advanced economic analysis, financial modeling, transaction support, and corporate performance management across the entire upstream oil and gas value chain. You will collaborate closely with executive leadership to shape business growth, manage critical stakeholder relationships, and ensure the successful execution of high-impact commercial transactions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and support complex commercial transactions and negotiations with joint venture partners, contractors, regulators, government agencies, and financiers.
  • Develop and maintain robust economic and financial models for upstream assets, capital projects, mergers, acquisitions, divestments, and new business ventures.
  • Provide critical commercial insights and strategic guidance into M&A activities, asset divestments, bidding rounds, and business development initiatives.
  • Integrate technical, financial, fiscal, tax, regulatory, and market intelligence into optimal commercial decisions and deal structures.
  • Negotiate and finalize key commercial agreements including crude oil sales, handling, transportation, gas sales, metering, shipping, and terminal lease contracts.
  • Lead comprehensive commercial risk assessments and implement effective mitigation strategies to safeguard company assets.
  • Support high-level government and regulatory engagements, audits, and fiscal reconciliations covering royalties, taxes, and statutory levies.
  • Contribute actively to corporate strategy formulation, annual budgeting, long-term business planning, and investor relations.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline; an MBA or relevant Master's degree is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 12 years of progressive commercial experience within the oil and gas sector.
  • Must possess proven operational background within an Exploration and Production (E&P) company, ideally with a mid-sized E&P operator.
  • At least 3 years of demonstrable experience serving in a comparable senior commercial leadership role.
  • Extensive track record of successfully leading high-stakes commercial negotiations and multi-disciplinary transactions.
  • In-depth understanding of upstream oil and gas operations, joint operating agreements, and Nigerian fiscal regimes.
  • Exceptional financial, analytical, and economic modeling capabilities combined with top-tier stakeholder management skills.
