About the Role
We are recruiting a skilled and dedicated Cardiac Surgeon Assistant to support our Consultant Cardiac Surgeon in the complete perioperative management of cardiac patients. You will play a crucial role in ensuring optimal patient outcomes through meticulous preoperative preparation, intraoperative assistance, and postoperative care in a multidisciplinary cardiac team environment.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct preoperative assessment and patient preparation for cardiac surgical procedures
- Review and analyse clinical records, investigations, imaging studies, and laboratory results
- Provide direct surgical assistance during cardiac procedures in the operating theatre
- Prepare and manage surgical instruments, equipment, and materials
- Support postoperative patient care in collaboration with the Cardiac ICU and clinical teams
- Monitor patient progress and promptly identify and escalate any complications
- Participate actively in ward rounds and multidisciplinary cardiac case discussions
- Maintain comprehensive and accurate clinical and surgical documentation
- Contribute to clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and service development
- Ensure strict compliance with infection prevention protocols, patient safety standards, and hospital policies
- MBBS, MD, or equivalent medical degree with relevant surgical qualification
- Current professional registration and valid practising licence
- Minimum 3 years of verifiable surgical experience
- Demonstrated experience in cardiac or cardiothoracic surgery (highly desirable)
- Excellent clinical assessment, communication, and technical surgical skills
- Proven ability to function effectively in operating theatre and multidisciplinary team settings
- Comprehensive understanding of perioperative and postoperative surgical care protocols
