About the Role

In this critical role, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of barges, ensuring all marine activities comply with industry regulations and company safety standards. Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and navigate barges and associated marine equipment safely and efficiently within designated operational areas.
  • Monitor stability, ballasting, and cargo loading or discharging operations to maintain vessel safety at all times.
  • Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of barge machinery, safety gear, and hull structures.
  • Ensure compliance with international and local maritime laws, environmental regulations, and company HSE policies.
  • Coordinate seamlessly with marine superintendents, tugboat captains, and onshore logistics teams.
  • Maintain accurate logs of daily operations, weather conditions, equipment status, and cargo movements.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to emergency situations in accordance with established onboard protocols.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of proven experience operating barges within the Nigerian oil and gas or marine sector.
  • Relevant maritime certifications, certifications of competency (CoC), and valid STCW safety certificates.
  • Deep understanding of marine stability, ballasting procedures, and offshore logistics operations.
  • Strong commitment to Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) standards.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities under pressure.
  • Ability to work effectively in remote offshore environments and adaptable shift schedules.
