Key Responsibilities- Operate and navigate barges and associated marine equipment safely and efficiently within designated operational areas.
- Monitor stability, ballasting, and cargo loading or discharging operations to maintain vessel safety at all times.
- Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of barge machinery, safety gear, and hull structures.
- Ensure compliance with international and local maritime laws, environmental regulations, and company HSE policies.
- Coordinate seamlessly with marine superintendents, tugboat captains, and onshore logistics teams.
- Maintain accurate logs of daily operations, weather conditions, equipment status, and cargo movements.
- Respond promptly and effectively to emergency situations in accordance with established onboard protocols.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of proven experience operating barges within the Nigerian oil and gas or marine sector.
- Relevant maritime certifications, certifications of competency (CoC), and valid STCW safety certificates.
- Deep understanding of marine stability, ballasting procedures, and offshore logistics operations.
- Strong commitment to Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) standards.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities under pressure.
- Ability to work effectively in remote offshore environments and adaptable shift schedules.
