About the Role
International Medical Corps is a global humanitarian organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through health care training and relief and development programs. As we expand our operations in Nigeria, we are seeking a dedicated and skilled Assistant WASH Engineer to support the delivery of essential water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) hardware activities. In this role, you will play a critical part in assessing needs, designing infrastructure, and supervising technical implementations in health facilities, IDP camps, refugee settlements, and host communities. Key Responsibilities- Assist with rapid needs assessments, household-level evaluations, and transition findings into actionable activity plans and budgets.
- Support the design, installation, and maintenance of piped water networks, pumps, generators, and plumbing systems to ensure safe water supply.
- Serve as the technical focal point for sanitation activities, including latrine construction, waste management, and infection prevention and control (IPC) operations.
- Monitor day-to-day activities of contractors, skilled labor, and unskilled laborers on-site to ensure adherence to quality standards.
- Organize and facilitate community training sessions on operation and maintenance (O&M) for health facilities, schools, and IDP camps.
- Conduct water quality testing using appropriate kits, record results, and provide accurate raw data for program delivery and donor reports.
- Ensure all WASH interventions comply with SPHERE, WHO, and organizational standards throughout the project cycle.
- Bachelor’s degree in Water and Sanitation Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a relevant technical WASH specialization.
- Minimum of 1 to 2 years of relevant experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining water and sanitation systems within humanitarian, IDP, or refugee contexts.
- Demonstrated experience in supervising contractors and working closely with local stakeholders, partners, and donors.
- Strong understanding of both hardware and software components of the WASH sector in emergency and early recovery phases.
- Proficiency in using Windows operating systems and standard office software applications.
- Exceptional problem-solving abilities with strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to understand and address gender-related and sex-specific challenges within beneficiary groups.
