About the Role
Helen Keller International is seeking a professional and safety-conscious Assistant, Transportation to join our dynamic team in Nigeria. In this role, you will play a vital part in our humanitarian mission by ensuring the safe and efficient transport of staff, visitors, and project materials. You will report directly to the Associate Officer, Logistics and Procurement or Finance Officer, with a dotted-line report to the Operations Officer.
Key Responsibilities- Safely operate organization vehicles for in-town travel and field visits, strictly adhering to local traffic laws and Helen Keller security protocols.
- Conduct thorough daily, weekly, and monthly vehicle checks, promptly reporting any mechanical issues or safety concerns.
- Perform minor maintenance and repairs, ensuring vehicles are clean inside and out, well-equipped with tools, and secure when not in use.
- Accurately complete vehicle logbooks, fuel logs, and trip sheets after every journey.
- Assist staff and visitors with the loading and unloading of project materials and documents at various sites, airports, and offices.
- Enforce strict safety rules, including mandatory seatbelt use for all passengers and adherence to cargo and passenger verification policies.
- Remain flexible to work extended hours, weekends, or rotating shifts as required by operational needs.
- Secondary-level diploma with a minimum of 5 years of professional driving experience.
- Basic knowledge of vehicle mechanics and maintenance is highly desired.
- Possession of a valid local driver's license with a clean driving record and verifiable references.
- Excellent knowledge of major local road networks, city streets, and regional routes.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a professional, punctual, and courteous demeanor.
- Good verbal and written English language skills.
