About the Role
The University of Benin (UNIBEN) is seeking a dedicated and academically driven professional to join our esteemed Department of Physical Sciences as an Assistant Lecturer in Statistics. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in delivering high-quality instruction, mentoring undergraduate students, and contributing to the vibrant research culture of a leading federal university in Nigeria.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver engaging lectures, tutorials, and practical sessions for undergraduate statistics courses.
- Design and update course materials, syllabi, and assessment rubrics in line with institutional and NUC guidelines.
- Supervise undergraduate student research projects and provide academic advising.
- Conduct impactful academic research and publish findings in reputable peer-reviewed journals.
- Participate actively in departmental, faculty, and university-wide committee meetings and academic events.
- Assist in the administration of departmental duties and community development initiatives as assigned.
- Must possess a First Degree with a minimum of a Second-Class Upper Division in Statistics or a closely related mathematical science discipline.
- Alternatively, candidates with a Second-Class Lower Division First Degree accompanied by a completed PhD will be considered.
- Must hold a Master Degree in Statistics and have a PhD currently in progress.
- Demonstrated evidence of teaching potential, pedagogical competence, and active engagement in academic research.
- Strong proficiency in statistical software packages such as R, Python, SPSS, or SAS.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong interpersonal abilities.
