About the Role
Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University is seeking a passionate and dedicated Assistant Lecturer to join our esteemed Department of Pharmacognosy and Traditional Medicines. In this academic role, you will contribute to our mission of becoming an internationally acclaimed centre of excellence for scientific innovations, technological breakthroughs, and sustainable human development. You will engage in impactful teaching, innovative research, and active mentorship of undergraduate students in Nigeria, helping to bridge the gap between traditional medicine and modern pharmaceutical practices.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver engaging lectures, tutorials, and practical laboratory sessions in Pharmacognosy and Traditional Medicines to undergraduate students.
- Develop and update course materials, syllabi, and curriculum content in alignment with national and global academic standards.
- Conduct high-quality research in the fields of pharmacognosy, phytochemistry, and the standardization of traditional African medicines.
- Supervise undergraduate student research projects, dissertations, and academic field trips.
- Participate in departmental, faculty, and university-wide committee meetings and administrative duties as assigned.
- Contribute to community engagement initiatives and promote the integration of safe traditional medicine practices.
- Minimum of a Master's degree in Pharmacognosy, Traditional Medicines, or a closely related pharmaceutical science discipline from a recognized university.
- Demonstrated potential or proven track record in academic research and peer-reviewed publications.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills suited for higher education.
- Membership in relevant professional bodies such as the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) is an added advantage.
