About the Role
Chabash Development and Health Initiative (CDHI) is a dynamic non-governmental organization dedicated to improving community resilience and public health in Nigeria. We are currently seeking a dedicated and proactive VSLA Assistant to support our WFP-supported Integrated Food System and Resilience Project in Jakusko LGA, Yobe State. In this role, you will play a vital part in driving financial inclusion and economic empowerment by mobilizing rural communities, establishing Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs), and delivering essential financial literacy and business skills training to vulnerable households.
Key Responsibilities- Mobilize community members, focusing on women, youth, and vulnerable households, to form and register functional Village Savings and Loan Associations.
- Facilitate comprehensive training on VSLA methodology, group governance, savings procedures, loan management, and basic record-keeping.
- Conduct regular field visits to monitor group savings cycles, review financial ledgers, and provide technical support.
- Deliver practical training on household financial planning, micro-enterprise management, and debt management.
- Link mature VSLA groups to post-harvest hubs, agro-processing units, and formal financial service providers.
- Collect and track monthly group performance data using standard digital and physical tools, reporting progress to the Business Development Officer.
- Enforce zero-tolerance policies regarding PSEA and ensure all project activities are conducted free of charge.
- Bachelor's degree or Higher National Diploma in Agribusiness, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of hands-on field experience in VSLA, SILC, or micro-finance self-help group formation and monitoring within humanitarian or resilience projects.
- Strong practical knowledge of standard VSLA methodology, passbook systems, and financial record-keeping.
- Excellent community facilitation, coaching, and interpersonal communication skills tailored to low-literacy audiences.
- Professional working proficiency in English and strong fluency in Hausa; knowledge of local Yobe State dialects is an advantage.
- Basic computer literacy, including experience with mobile data collection tools and Microsoft Excel.
