About the Role
The Digital Rights and Mental Health Initiative Africa (DRMHI) is looking for a passionate and dedicated Volunteer - Protection Officer to join our dynamic team in Nigeria. Founded by Kauna Malgwi, DRMHI operates at the critical intersection of digital labor, technology-driven harms, and psychological well-being. In this role, you will play a vital part in implementing protection-related activities, safeguarding vulnerable individuals, and promoting human rights within digital and physical communities. Key Responsibilities- Support the successful implementation of DRMHI protection and community-based activities.
- Assist with comprehensive protection assessments, community engagement, and awareness sensitization campaigns.
- Help identify emerging protection concerns and establish appropriate referral pathways.
- Collect, document, and manage programme information accurately while maintaining strict confidentiality of sensitive data.
- Participate actively in protection meetings, specialized trainings, and relevant field activities.
- Assist in preparing detailed protection reports and supporting community feedback mechanisms.
- Promote safe, ethical, and respectful engagement with all project beneficiaries.
- Immediately report any safeguarding, protection, and PSEA concerns through approved organizational channels.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by your supervisor to support organizational objectives.
- Possession of a BSc or HND from a recognized tertiary institution.
- A strong demonstrated interest in protection, humanitarian assistance, human rights, community development, or related fields.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills paired with strong interpersonal abilities.
- High levels of empathy, personal integrity, and professional standards.
- Proven ability to work respectfully, inclusively, and sensitively with vulnerable populations.
- Good computer literacy and proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications.
- Must own a working personal laptop and have reliable internet access for daily operations.
- Minimum availability of ten (10) hours per week with prompt responsiveness (within one hour) during agreed availability periods.
- Willingness to report physically to the office once weekly as agreed with DRMHI management, if applicable.
- Willingness to prepare and implement effective bi-monthly work plans.
