About the Role
The Digital Rights and Mental Health Initiative Africa (DRMHI) is seeking a dynamic, creative, and dedicated Media and Communications Officer Volunteer to join our vibrant team. Founded by Kauna Malgwi, DRMHI is a pioneering organization dedicated to exploring the intersection of digital labor, technology-driven harms, and psychological well-being. In this role, you will play a vital part in amplifying our voice, increasing organizational visibility, and driving advocacy campaigns that promote healthy digital spaces across Africa. This volunteer opportunity offers invaluable hands-on experience in non-profit communications, digital rights advocacy, and mental health awareness, making it an ideal position for professionals eager to create meaningful social impact.
Key Responsibilities- Manage and support DRMHI social media platforms to drive engagement and expand our digital footprint.
- Develop compelling, approved communication content, newsletters, reports, and visibility materials.
- Assist with photography, videography, video editing, and graphic content creation for various campaigns.
- Document DRMHI programmes, events, and activities, ensuring the collection of impactful success stories.
- Maintain a comprehensive content calendar and support the execution of strategic communication campaigns.
- Prepare and implement bi-monthly work plans while ensuring prompt responses to official communications.
- Ensure strict adherence to ethical standards, including obtaining appropriate consent before publishing beneficiary stories and protecting confidential information.
- Possession of a BSc or HND from a recognized institution.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with a strong flair for creative storytelling.
- Demonstrated knowledge and active interest in digital communication and major social media platforms.
- Proficiency in computer literacy, Microsoft Office Suite, and basic multimedia tools.
- Must possess a working personal laptop and reliable internet access for seamless remote collaboration.
- Minimum availability of ten (10) hours per week, with a willingness to report physically once weekly if required.
