About the Role
The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Training Officer to drive our agricultural capacity-building initiatives in Plateau State. In this role, you will coordinate state-level training programs, adapt curricula for local value chains, and empower youth, women, and marginalized groups through hands-on agribusiness education.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate state-level training needs assessments and adapt technical, business, and soft-skills curricula to local value chains.
- Plan and schedule training cohorts, mobilizing venues, facilitators, mentors, and participants in collaboration with the logistics team.
- Oversee daily training delivery at Youth Agribusiness Parks and designated centers to ensure practical, high-quality sessions.
- Coordinate inclusive training for persons with disabilities and internally displaced youth using adapted, multilingual methods.
- Support the implementation of the Start Them Early Program (STEP) in secondary schools across the state.
- Track participant attendance, progress, and completion data for robust Monitoring and Evaluation systems.
- Facilitate the distribution of training materials and starter kits, linking graduates to mentors, markets, and financial services.
- Prepare periodic training reports and ensure all activities comply with IITA safeguarding and gender-inclusion standards.
- Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Extension, Agribusiness, Education, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of professional experience in agricultural training, extension services, or youth capacity-building.
- Sound technical knowledge of priority value chains such as poultry, aquaculture, horticulture, rice, maize, or cassava.
- Proven expertise in adult-learning principles, workshop facilitation, and inclusive training delivery.
- Strong interpersonal, stakeholder engagement, and report-writing skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Deep understanding of the local context, communities, and languages of Plateau State, with a willingness to travel to rural training locations.
