About the Role
The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Training Officer to join our team in Kano. In this role, you will coordinate state-level training needs assessments, schedule cohorts, and oversee the delivery of practical, inclusive agribusiness training for youth, women, and marginalized groups. You will play a vital role in advancing our mission to enhance food security and generate wealth from agriculture through our award-winning research-for-development model.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate state-level training needs assessments and adapt technical, business, and soft-skills curricula to local value chains.
- Plan training cohorts, mobilizing venues, facilitators, mentors, and participants in collaboration with the State Admin and Logistics Officer.
- Oversee training delivery at Youth Agribusiness Parks and designated centers, ensuring practical, high-quality sessions.
- Coordinate specialized, inclusive training for persons with disabilities and internally displaced youth.
- Support the implementation of the Start Them Early Program (STEP) in secondary schools.
- Track participant attendance, progress, and completion data for Monitoring and Evaluation systems.
- Prepare periodic training reports on participation, completion rates, and quality observations.
- Ensure all activities comply with IITA safeguarding, gender-inclusion, and health and safety standards.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Extension, Agribusiness, Education, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of professional experience in agricultural training, extension services, or youth capacity-building programs.
- Sound technical knowledge of priority value chains such as poultry, aquaculture, horticulture, rice, maize, or cassava.
- Demonstrated experience in adult learning principles and practical training delivery for diverse groups.
- Strong facilitation, coaching, mentoring, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and basic digital learning platforms.
- Willingness to travel frequently within the state and to rural training locations.
