About the Role
The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Training Officer to join our team in Jigawa. In this pivotal role, you will coordinate state-level training needs assessments, plan cohorts, and oversee hands-on capacity-building programs designed to empower youth and transform agricultural value chains in Nigeria.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate state-level training needs assessments and adapt technical, business, and soft-skills curricula to local contexts.
- Plan and schedule training cohorts, mobilizing venues, facilitators, mentors, and participants in collaboration with logistics teams.
- Oversee training delivery at Youth Agribusiness Parks and designated centers to ensure practical, high-quality learning experiences.
- Coordinate specialized, inclusive training for persons with disabilities, internally displaced youth, and support the Start Them Early Program (STEP) in secondary schools.
- Track participant attendance, progress, and completion data for robust monitoring, evaluation, and reporting.
- Ensure compliance with IITA safeguarding, gender inclusion, and health and safety standards across all activities.
- Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, Agricultural Extension, Agribusiness, Education, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of professional experience in agricultural training, extension services, vocational training, or youth capacity development.
- Strong technical knowledge of priority value chains such as poultry, aquaculture, horticulture, rice, maize, or cassava.
- Proven ability in adult-learning facilitation, coaching, and stakeholder engagement.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and strong report-writing skills.
- Familiarity with the local context, communities, and languages of Jigawa State, with a willingness to travel frequently to rural training locations.
