Located at the Imo State Specialist Hospital in Umuguma, Owerri, the centre is poised to become West Africa's premier hub for advanced minimally invasive surgery and comprehensive cancer care. We are seeking a dedicated and meticulous Support Worker (Cleaner) to maintain the highest standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and infection control across our cutting-edge facility. In this vital role, you will ensure our advanced environment remains safe, spotless, and welcoming for patients, visitors, and medical professionals alike.
Key Responsibilities- Perform thorough cleaning, sanitization, and disinfection of hospital wards, surgical suites, and public areas in strict adherence to medical hygiene protocols.
- Safely handle, dispose of, and manage medical and general waste according to established safety guidelines and environmental regulations.
- Maintain cleaning equipment and supplies, reporting any maintenance issues or shortages promptly to the facility management team.
- Ensure waiting rooms, patient recovery areas, and restrooms are consistently tidy, well-stocked, and presentable throughout the shift.
- Collaborate effectively with nursing and facilities staff to support seamless operational workflows and patient care standards.
- Minimum of a Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) or equivalent relevant qualification.
- Proven professional experience as a cleaner, custodian, or support worker, preferably within a hospital or healthcare environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of proper cleaning techniques, chemical safety, and infection control standards.
- Strong attention to detail, excellent time-management skills, and a reliable, trustworthy work ethic.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English and interact politely with patients and medical staff.
