About the Role
LighTech Automation Electrical Services Limited offers specialized training, installation, and maintenance services in home and industrial automation, alongside expert talent placement. We are currently seeking an experienced, safety-conscious, and responsible Senior Generator Operator to oversee the operation and monitoring of heavy-duty diesel and gas-powered generator sets within a major manufacturing facility. The ideal candidate brings robust practical expertise in industrial power generation, ensuring seamless plant operations, reliable power distribution, and the safe handling of fuel and gas systems while providing operational leadership to junior personnel.
Key Responsibilities- Operate, monitor, and maintain large-scale diesel and gas generators in strict compliance with manufacturer recommendations and safety protocols.
- Lead and supervise Junior Generator Operators during routine, scheduled, and emergency plant operations.
- Execute precise generator start-up, synchronization, loading, unloading, changeover, and shutdown procedures.
- Continuously monitor critical operational parameters including RPM, voltage, frequency, load currents, temperatures, and fuel levels.
- Conduct thorough routine inspections of control panels, fuel systems, cooling systems, batteries, and exhaust mechanisms.
- Identify equipment alarms, abnormal vibrations, overheating, and potential leaks for proactive first-level troubleshooting.
- Coordinate seamlessly with electrical and mechanical maintenance teams to resolve complex faults and support planned shutdowns.
- Maintain comprehensive operating logs for running hours, fuel consumption, faults, and maintenance activities.
- Ensure full compliance with Permit to Work (PTW), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and general industrial safety regulations.
- OND, HND, or relevant technical qualification in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience operating industrial diesel and gas generators within a manufacturing, process plant, or heavy industrial environment.
- Strong technical proficiency in generator synchronization, load sharing, power management, and switchgear changeover operations.
- Thorough understanding of electrical parameters, combustion engine mechanics, and control panel protection systems.
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and coordinate technical junior teams in high-pressure operational settings.
- Strong problem-solving skills, exceptional attention to detail, and a strict commitment to workplace safety practices.
- Must be willing to work flexible shifts, including weekends and public holidays as required by plant schedules.
- Must be willing and ready to relocate to Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.
