About the Role
Fortis Engineering Services is a dynamic, solutions-driven company serving Africa’s energy, oil and gas, and mining industries with expertise in civil construction, asset integrity, maintenance, procurement, fabrication, installations, and operations and maintenance. We are currently looking for a skilled and dedicated Second Engineer to join our maritime and industrial engineering team in Nigeria. In this critical role, you will play an integral part in ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all vessel and facility machinery, supporting our commitment to precision, resilience, and safety.
Key Responsibilities- Organize and execute scheduled and corrective maintenance and repairs on all vessel or facility machinery and auxiliary equipment.
- Supervise, mentor, and direct engine-room personnel to ensure high standards of workmanship and adherence to safety protocols.
- Monitor machinery performance continuously, troubleshooting anomalies and recording operational data accurately.
- Carry out safe and compliant watchkeeping duties in accordance with international maritime and industry standards.
- Coordinate with the Chief Engineer for spare parts inventory management, procurement requests, and maintenance planning.
- Ensure strict compliance with environmental regulations, safety management systems, and company policies at all times.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of proven experience operating as a Second Engineer in the maritime, oil and gas, or energy sector.
- Relevant marine engineering certifications, STCW endorsements, and a valid Certificate of Competency (CoC).
- Comprehensive knowledge of diesel engines, auxiliary machinery, hydraulic systems, and electrical troubleshooting.
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills with the ability to manage multidisciplinary engine-room teams.
