About the Role

The Sahara Centre (TSC) is a dynamic Lagos-based non-profit organisation dedicated to exploring how indigenous knowledge systems can drive innovation and sustainable development across Africa. We bridge the gap between communities, policymakers, and creators to shape a prosperous future grounded in African wisdom. We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and academically driven Research Assistant to join our team on a six-month fixed-term placement based in our Lagos office.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive literature reviews and background research under the guidance of the project lead.
  • Support qualitative and quantitative data collection efforts, including basic data cleaning and management.
  • Draft sections of research reports, briefs, and other project outputs for senior review.
  • Maintain meticulously organized project documentation, ensuring accurate source tracking and citation management.
  • Engage actively in Centre programming, such as Lantern Lab sessions, and participate in regular team check-ins to implement feedback effectively.

Qualifications
  • Recently completed a Master's degree or currently enrolled in PhD candidacy within a relevant academic discipline.
  • Exceptional candidates holding a First Class or Second Class Upper Bachelor's degree will also be considered.
  • Demonstrated prior research experience through academic theses, coursework, or internships within development-focused organizations.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of research methodologies and critical source evaluation techniques.
  • A deep personal interest in indigenous knowledge systems, African development narratives, and the core intellectual themes of The Sahara Centre.
