About the Role

Slum and Rural Health Initiative is a dynamic nonprofit organization dedicated to improving access to healthcare information and services in vulnerable and underserved communities across Africa. Since 2017, we have leveraged advocacy, research, and technology to transform health outcomes in Nigeria, Ethiopia, and the Gambia. We are currently looking for a passionate and dedicated Psychiatrist or Clinical Psychologist to join our multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, social scientists, and researchers to provide vital mental health support to populations in need.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive mental health assessments, diagnoses, and evidence-based psychological or psychiatric interventions to individuals in slum and rural communities.
  • Design and facilitate community-based mental health awareness campaigns, psychoeducation workshops, and stigma-reduction programs.
  • Collaborate closely with our multidisciplinary team of healthcare providers, researchers, and social entrepreneurs to integrate mental health into broader primary healthcare initiatives.
  • Offer trauma-informed counseling and crisis intervention support to vulnerable populations, including women, youth, and marginalized groups.
  • Participate in community-based research, data collection, and impact assessment to evaluate mental health program outcomes and guide future advocacy.
  • Develop referral pathways and coordinate care with secondary and tertiary health facilities for patients requiring specialized psychiatric treatment.

Qualifications
  • Degree in Medicine with a specialization in Psychiatry (MBBS and FWACP/FMCP or equivalent) OR a Master's or Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from a recognized institution.
  • Valid practicing license from the relevant professional regulatory body in Nigeria (e.g., Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria or Clinical Psychologist Association of Nigeria).
  • Minimum of 2 to 4 years of hands-on clinical experience, preferably within public health, community outreach, or nonprofit settings.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and empathy when working with vulnerable, low-income, and marginalized populations.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and advocacy skills with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Passion for global health, health equity, and humanitarian service delivery in rural and slum settings.
