About the Role
Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) seeks an experienced Project Manager to provide strategic leadership and direction for the WCS Nigeria Yankari Project. You will work closely with the Country Director to oversee conservation operations across biomonitoring, community engagement, governance, and stakeholder coordination while supporting law enforcement efforts to protect the Yankari Game Reserve's biodiversity and ensure sustainable management of this critical landscape.
Key Responsibilities- Provide overall strategic leadership and direction for the Yankari landscape, ensuring delivery of conservation objectives and annual workplans
- Supervise project staff and coordinate across law enforcement, biomonitoring, community engagement, and governance components
- Support law enforcement operations and strengthen collaboration with security agencies and government stakeholders to address poaching, encroachment, and insecurity threats
- Guide implementation of biodiversity monitoring systems using SMART/EarthRanger and other data-driven conservation management tools
- Support governance initiatives to strengthen community relations, conflict mitigation, and inclusive stakeholder platforms
- Maintain relationships with government agencies, donors, and partners; prepare donor reports and represent WCS in stakeholder forums
- Oversee project monitoring, evaluation, and reporting systems ensuring accountability and adaptive management
- Master's degree in conservation biology, ecology, environmental management, or related field
- Minimum 10 years' experience in conservation project management, including multi-component program leadership
- Proven experience in law enforcement coordination, biodiversity monitoring, and community engagement
- Strong understanding of governance systems and stakeholder coordination in Nigerian contexts
- Proficiency in data-driven conservation tools (SMART, GIS, KoboTool)
- Fluency in English and Hausa; willingness to be based in Bauchi State
