About the Role
The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is seeking a dedicated Project Budget Development Officer to support our Proposal Development and Administrative Unit. In this role, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary research teams to design accurate, competitive, and donor-compliant project budgets that drive agricultural development across Africa.
Key Responsibilities- Support scientists and proposal teams in developing accurate, competitive, and compliant project budgets aligned with institutional policies and donor requirements.
- Review donor call guidelines, conduct administrative and technical compliance reviews, and maintain institutional cost databases and master cost documents.
- Coordinate internal proposal approval processes, manage donor budget templates, and update institutional costing assumptions in collaboration with Finance and People & Culture.
- Provide budget development guidance and training to scientific staff while assisting with the PDAU Proposal Ideation Platform workflows.
- Support the Unit Head in preparing annual budgets, monitoring expenditures, and compiling necessary proposal supporting documents.
- Master Degree (MSc or MBA) in Finance, Business Administration, Project Management, Agricultural Economics, or a related field.
- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in project budgeting, grants management, or financial planning within an international organization.
- Demonstrated expertise in developing budgets for major international donors such as USAID, EU, FCDO, and the Gates Foundation.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, financial modeling, and enterprise financial systems with exceptional attention to detail.
