About the Role
The African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) Abuja is a premier 500-bed specialty hospital committed to delivering world-class healthcare, diagnostics, and research across Africa. Developed by Afreximbank in clinical partnership with Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, we are currently seeking a dedicated Non-Medical Waste Management Operator to join our dynamic environmental services team.
Key Responsibilities- Collect, segregate, and transport non-medical waste including general, recyclable, organic, confidential, and e-waste in compliance with environmental standards.
- Operate and maintain waste processing machinery such as compactors, balers, and transport trolleys safely and efficiently.
- Handle confidential waste securely and monitor recycling programs to promote hospital sustainability objectives.
- Perform routine checks and maintenance support for hospital sewage systems, wastewater treatment plants, drains, and effluent quality parameters.
- Sanitize waste containers, manage inventory of liners, and maintain immaculate storage and processing zones.
- Maintain accurate daily logs, waste manifests, and incident reports while adhering strictly to health, safety, and infection prevention protocols.
- Minimum of a Diploma in a related field, with vocational training in sanitation, environmental health, or HSE as an added advantage.
- 2 to 3 years of practical experience in waste handling, janitorial services, or environmental support within a healthcare or institutional setting.
- Strong understanding of waste segregation principles, recycling protocols, and basic sewage system monitoring.
- Possession of a Certificate in Waste Management, Infection Prevention, or HSE is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety policies, basic literacy and numeracy skills, and the ability to operate waste transport and compaction equipment.
