About the Role
Slum and Rural Health Initiative is a dynamic nonprofit organization established in 2017 and officially registered in Nigeria, Ethiopia, and The Gambia. We are dedicated to transforming healthcare information and service delivery for vulnerable and underserved populations across Africa using advocacy, research, and innovative technology. Our multidisciplinary team comprises passionate healthcare professionals, social scientists, IT experts, and researchers committed to driving meaningful social impact.
Key Responsibilities- Design, develop, and deploy advanced Natural Language Processing models and algorithms to support digital health initiatives.
- Process, clean, and verify the integrity of unstructured textual data used for analysis and machine learning applications.
- Collaborate with software engineers, researchers, and healthcare professionals to integrate NLP features into existing platforms.
- Fine-tune pre-trained language models for specific African languages and context-driven healthcare applications.
- Monitor, evaluate, and optimize the performance of NLP pipelines to ensure accuracy, scalability, and efficiency.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Linguistics, Data Science, or a related field.
- Proven hands-on experience as an NLP Engineer, Machine Learning Engineer, or similar role.
- Strong proficiency in Python and standard machine learning/NLP libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, NLTK, spaCy, and Hugging Face Transformers.
- Solid understanding of text preprocessing, tokenization, sentiment analysis, named entity recognition, and transformer architectures.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a strong passion for leveraging technology for social good and public health in Africa.
