About the Role
The African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) Abuja, a premier 500-bed specialty hospital developed by Afreximbank in clinical partnership with Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, is seeking a skilled Molecular Pathologist. In this vital role, you will lead our molecular pathology laboratory, delivering cutting-edge diagnostic services in oncology, cardiovascular care, and infectious diseases to advance precision medicine across Africa.
Key Responsibilities- Perform, supervise, and interpret complex molecular tests including NGS, real-time PCR, FISH, and Sanger sequencing to guide personalized treatment.
- Develop, validate, and optimize new molecular assays while maintaining rigorous laboratory protocols and standard operating procedures.
- Ensure full compliance with international standards such as ISO 15189, CAP, and CLIA by managing robust quality control and assurance programs.
- Lead, manage, and mentor a team of molecular technologists, scientists, and pathology residents to foster a culture of diagnostic excellence.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary clinical teams and tumor boards to correlate molecular findings with patient care.
- Contribute to translational research projects, biomarker development, and scientific publications.
- Medical Degree (MBBS/MD) or PhD in Molecular Biology, Genetics, or a related field.
- Board Certification or Fellowship in Molecular Pathology or equivalent international certification.
- Valid medical license to practice in Nigeria or eligibility to obtain one.
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in molecular diagnostics, focusing on NGS, PCR, and assay validation.
- Proven expertise in laboratory management and quality compliance frameworks like ISO 15189 and CAP.
