About the Role
Action Against Hunger is a global humanitarian organization dedicated to ending world hunger, saving the lives of malnourished children, and providing communities with access to safe water and sustainable solutions. We are currently seeking a passionate and skilled Mental Health, Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Officer to join our dynamic team in Damasak, Borno State, starting October 2026. In this impactful role, you will deliver critical psychological assessments, therapeutic interventions, and capacity-building support to vulnerable populations, including children, adolescents, adults, and families affected by humanitarian crises.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments, plan appropriate interventions, and ensure consistent follow-up for vulnerable beneficiaries.
- Facilitate individual and group therapeutic sessions across diverse community settings, strictly adhering to standard Action Against Hunger protocols.
- Manage confidential clinical documentation and coordinate seamless referrals to specialized MHPSS, health, and protection services.
- Design and deliver specialized training programs and clinical supervision for healthcare workers, non-specialists, and community-based stakeholders.
- Contribute to data collection, monitoring, and regular reporting while strictly guaranteeing the confidentiality of beneficiary information.
- Collaborate actively with internal departments and external humanitarian partners, representing the organization in cluster meetings and working groups.
- Master’s degree in clinical psychology or mental health counseling.
- Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in MHPSS, protection, and care practices, including psychological assessment, counseling, and case management.
- Demonstrated experience working in humanitarian contexts with IDPs, refugees, or vulnerable host communities following WHO and IASC guidelines.
- Proven ability to design and conduct training and supervision for health workers and community members.
- Strong communication skills with native or bilingual fluency in both English and Hausa.
- Willingness and resilience to travel and operate in remote areas with limited services.
