About the Role
The African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) Abuja is seeking a skilled and dedicated Medical Gas Plant Engineer to join our state-of-the-art 500-bed specialty hospital. Developed by Afreximbank in clinical partnership with Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, AMCE Abuja offers world-class comprehensive diagnostics and treatment. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for the operational integrity, maintenance, and compliance of our medical gas pipeline system (MGPS) and associated plants, directly impacting patient safety and care across our facility.
Key Responsibilities- Operate, monitor, and maintain medical gas production plants including VPSA plants, medical air compressors, vacuum pumps, and manifold systems.
- Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance, servicing, and testing of all medical gas equipment in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and international standards.
- Perform regular purity testing of medical gases and document results to guarantee quality and safety for patient clinical use.
- Act as a primary emergency responder to all medical gas system alarms, alerts, and urgent operational issues.
- Manage cylinder storage, bulk tank levels, and cylinder changeover procedures efficiently.
- Lead and project-manage any upgrades, extensions, or modifications to the MGPS, coordinating closely with consultants, contractors, and the Facilities Management department.
- Train clinical staff in the correct, safe use of medical gas outlets and emergency response procedures.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Valid membership with a recognized professional engineering body such as COREN.
- Certified training and qualifications in Medical Gas Pipeline Systems (MGPS) are highly desirable.
- Minimum of 3 years of proven experience in the operation and maintenance of complex engineering plants within a healthcare or industrial environment.
