About the Role

HBM Nigeria Plc (Formerly Lafarge), a leading name in building solutions and a member of the LafargeHolcim group, is seeking a talented and driven Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic operations team in Nigeria. In this critical role, you will ensure the efficient coordination and execution of all mechanical maintenance activities within designated plant areas, contributing directly to our mission of building better cities and sustainable infrastructure across Africa.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute mechanical maintenance work on plant equipment and provide accurate feedback to the Sectional Engineer.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain standardized working methods and procedures within the assigned field.
  • Plan work and allocate resources using the CMMS and SAP systems as assigned by management.
  • Supervise assigned team members, conduct performance reviews, ensure on-site work quality, and drive team motivation.
  • Enforce strict compliance with all company safety rules and regulations within designated work areas.
  • Collaborate with planners to review weekly, monthly, and shutdown maintenance schedules based on production needs.
  • Monitor and prepare spare parts lists and ensure proper tool management in line with departmental procedures.
  • Participate actively in critical failure root cause analysis to minimize plant downtime.
  • Document and maintain all permits, risk assessments, and audit-related files for effective performance tracking.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in a heavy process or manufacturing industry.
  • Deep understanding of machine mechanics, welding conventions, and pneumatic/hydraulic operations.
  • Proven expertise in troubleshooting hydraulic system faults and interpreting complex engineering drawings.
  • Familiarity with Failure Root Cause Analysis (FRCA) and Critical Path Analysis techniques.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of industrial safety standards and plant equipment processes.
