About the Role

Protergia Energy Nigeria is a leading renewable energy project developer and independent power producer dedicated to building sustainable power solutions for corporate, industrial, and public clients across Nigeria. We are currently seeking a strategic and dynamic Legal & Compliance Manager to oversee all legal, regulatory, and corporate governance matters as we expand our portfolio of solar captive power plants and rural mini-grid electrification projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert legal guidance on business decisions, strategic initiatives, and corporate risk exposure.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate complex energy sector contracts including EPC agreements, Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), and vendor leases.
  • Ensure full compliance with Nigerian energy laws, environmental regulations, and statutory obligations.
  • Liaise with key regulatory bodies, secure operational licenses and permits, and maintain robust compliance frameworks.
  • Manage corporate governance, board resolutions, and legal filings while fostering an ethical workplace culture.
  • Oversee dispute resolution, coordinate with external legal counsel, and implement proactive risk mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate closely with business development, finance, and technical teams to support project execution and growth.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from a recognized institution and a mandatory Barrister at Law (BL) qualification to practice in Nigeria.
  • An LL.M or MBA is considered an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 8 to 12 years of progressive legal experience, with at least 3 to 5 years in a managerial capacity.
  • Demonstrated background in the renewable energy, infrastructure, or project development sectors.
  • Deep expertise in contract law, corporate governance, and regulatory compliance frameworks.
  • Exceptional negotiation, stakeholder management, and analytical problem-solving abilities.
