About the Role
The University of Benin (UNIBEN), a premier federal university founded in 1970, is seeking a dedicated and qualified professional to join our academic community as a Librarian II at the renowned John Harris Library. In this role, you will play a crucial part in managing information resources, supporting cutting-edge research, and providing exceptional library services to students and faculty members in a dynamic academic environment.
Key Responsibilities- Manage, organize, and catalog physical and digital library collections to ensure easy accessibility for users.
- Provide reference and research assistance to undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as faculty researchers.
- Conduct information literacy training sessions and workshops for students and staff.
- Collaborate with academic departments to curate reading lists and acquire relevant academic literature.
- Participate in departmental meetings, university committees, and contribute to academic publishing and research activities.
- Assist in the implementation of modern library automation systems and digital archiving initiatives.
- Possession of a Master of Library Science (M.L.S.) or a Master's degree in a related discipline.
- A first degree with a minimum of a Second-Class Upper Division, or a Second-Class Lower Division alongside a PhD.
- At least three (3) years of relevant teaching or professional library experience.
- Must have a minimum of one (1) peer-reviewed publication in a recognized academic journal.
- Strong computer literacy and familiarity with modern library management software and digital repositories.
