About the Role
The National Institute for Nigerian Languages (NINLAN) is an Inter-University Centre for Nigerian Language Studies and an autonomous institution operating under the regulation of the National Universities Commission (NUC). We are currently seeking a dedicated, knowledgeable, and proactive Legal Officer to join our institutional team in Nigeria. In this vital role, you will be responsible for safeguarding the legal interests of the Institute, providing sound advisory services on administrative and academic matters, and ensuring full compliance with relevant statutory regulations.
Key Responsibilities- Provide comprehensive legal advice and guidance to the management, governing council, and departments of the Institute.
- Draft, review, and negotiate various institutional contracts, Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), agreements, and legal documents.
- Ensure the Institute complies with all applicable Nigerian laws, NUC regulations, and institutional policies.
- Manage litigation, liaise with external solicitors, and represent the Institute in legal proceedings and administrative tribunals.
- Maintain custody of legal documents, corporate seals, land titles, and other vital institutional records.
- Stay updated on emerging legislation and regulatory changes affecting higher education and inter-university centers in Nigeria.
- Possession of a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized university and a Barrister at Law (BL) certification from the Nigerian Law School.
- Relevant academic and professional qualifications, along with demonstrated legal practice experience.
- Strong understanding of Nigerian public service rules, labor laws, and higher education regulations.
