About the Role
Vale is a dynamic mobile banking solution empowering individuals and businesses with innovative payment, savings, and credit propositions, duly regulated by the Central Bank of Nigeria. We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Legal Officer to join our legal and compliance team in Lagos, Nigeria. In this role, you will play a critical part in safeguarding our financial assets, ensuring strict adherence to regulatory standards, and supporting our mission to deliver seamless financial services.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and execute robust legal strategies for the recovery of non-performing loans (NPLs) and delinquent customer accounts.
- Draft, review, and negotiate demand letters, legal notices, commercial agreements, and other vital legal documentation.
- Liaise effectively with law enforcement agencies, regulatory bodies, and external solicitors on various legal and recovery matters.
- Represent the company in legal proceedings or coordinate external legal counsel where required to protect organizational interests.
- Ensure continuous compliance with applicable Nigerian laws, CBN regulations, AML/CFT requirements, and data protection standards.
- Manage regulatory filings, internal compliance reviews, and Know Your Customer (KYC)-related legal processes.
- Provide sound, timely legal advice to internal stakeholders regarding business transactions, contracts, and emerging regulatory matters.
- Monitor legal and regulatory developments within the fintech space and recommend proactive actions to mitigate organizational risk.
- Possession of an LL.B and B.L., with formal call to the Nigerian Bar.
- Minimum of 3 to 7 years of cognate legal experience, preferably gained within a commercial bank, fintech firm, or leading financial institution.
- Strong, demonstrable knowledge of Nigerian commercial law, debt recovery procedures, litigation, and financial services regulations.
- Excellent contract drafting, negotiation, analytical, and stakeholder management skills.
