About the Role
The University of Benin (UNIBEN), a prestigious federal institution founded in 1970, invites qualified and passionate academics to apply for the position of Lecturer I in Linguistics and African Languages within the Department of Arts. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in delivering high-quality instruction, fostering academic excellence, and advancing research in African linguistics.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver engaging undergraduate and postgraduate lectures in Linguistics and African Languages.
- Develop and update curriculum materials in alignment with National Universities Commission (NUC) standards.
- Supervise undergraduate and graduate research projects, essays, and theses.
- Conduct high-impact research and publish peer-reviewed articles in reputable local and international journals.
- Participate in departmental, faculty, and university-wide committee meetings and administrative duties.
- Mentor students and provide academic counseling to support their professional and personal development.
- A Ph.D. or Master's degree in Linguistics, African Languages, or a closely related field from a recognized institution.
- A minimum of three (3) years of active teaching and research experience at the tertiary level.
- Must possess a minimum of three (3) peer-reviewed journal publications.
- A First Degree with a minimum of a Second-Class Upper Division, OR a Second-Class Lower Division combined with a Ph.D.
