About the Role
The University of Benin (UNIBEN) is seeking a dedicated and professional Laboratory Technologist II (Optometry) on a CONTISS 07 salary structure. As a vital member of our academic and research community, you will play an essential role in supporting practical training, laboratory sessions, and research activities within the Department of Optometry. Key Responsibilities- Assist academic staff and students during laboratory practicals, demonstrations, and research experiments in Optometry and related fields.
- Prepare, maintain, and calibrate laboratory equipment, apparatus, and optical instruments to ensure optimal functionality and safety.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols, laboratory hygiene standards, and proper disposal of hazardous materials.
- Maintain comprehensive inventory records of laboratory chemicals, reagents, optical tools, and consumable supplies.
- Troubleshoot technical equipment issues and coordinate prompt repairs or maintenance when necessary.
- Support undergraduate and postgraduate students in conducting optical and clinical laboratory procedures.
- Perform any other related duties assigned by the Head of Department or University management.
- Possession of a good honours degree in Opticianry or Science Laboratory Technology (not below Second Class Lower Division) from a recognized institution.
- Alternatively, a Higher National Diploma (HND) not below Lower Credit in a relevant field.
- Must be duly registered or registrable with the relevant professional body/institute.
- Mandatory possession of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate or exemption letter.
- Demonstrated proficiency in operating and maintaining modern laboratory and optical equipment.
- Good communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
