About the Role
Guinea Insurance Plc, a leading NAICOM-licensed general insurance provider in Nigeria with a rich history dating back to 1948, is seeking a driven Junior Backend Developer to join our dynamic Digital Technology team in Lagos. In this role, you will work closely with our Senior Backend Developer to build, maintain, and optimize robust backend applications and services that power our modern insurance solutions.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in designing, developing, and maintaining scalable backend applications and services using PHP, Laravel, and Node.js.
- Write clean, maintainable, reusable, and well-documented code while supporting new feature implementations and bug fixes.
- Develop, consume, and maintain RESTful APIs and support integration with various internal and third-party systems using REST and SOAP protocols.
- Utilize Postman for comprehensive API testing, troubleshooting, and functionality validation.
- Manage source code effectively using Git and GitHub, adhering to team workflows including branching, commits, and pull requests.
- Perform unit and functional testing to ensure high software reliability and performance.
- Provide reliable technical support for backend applications, investigating reported issues and assisting in root-cause analysis.
- First Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
- Mandatory completion of the NYSC programme with valid evidence of completion or exemption.
- 1 to 3 years of relevant professional experience in software or backend development.
- Practical, hands-on experience building web applications using PHP/Laravel and JavaScript/Node.js.
- Demonstrated experience in developing, consuming, or integrating RESTful APIs and third-party services.
- Solid working knowledge of Git/GitHub for version control, Postman for API testing, and fundamental SQL/database concepts.
