About the Role
The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) is seeking a dynamic, multi-skilled Journalist to join the BBC Igbo service editorial team in Lagos. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape a transformative, video-led operation designed for a new generation of Igbo audiences who consume news primarily via smartphones and social media. You will work across a story-led model, moving fluently between digital, social, radio, and TV platforms to deliver accurate, engaging, and SEO-friendly journalism.
Key Responsibilities- Create and publish accurate, engaging, and SEO-friendly news content for the BBC Igbo website under tight deadlines.
- Produce, present, shoot, and edit short-form video content for platforms including TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook.
- Develop compelling social media strategies to drive audience engagement and expand reach across digital platforms.
- Respond swiftly to breaking news, maintaining a consistent flow of multi-format content throughout the day.
- Utilize audience analytics and performance insights to inform daily content decisions and optimize digital output.
- Contribute to BBC Igbo’s visualised radio programming, presenting confidently on air and on screen.
- Repurpose live radio and interview content into engaging digital clips to maximize cross-platform reach.
- Proven experience creating engaging digital, social, radio, and video content with a strong understanding of platform best practices.
- Excellent writing, reading, editing, and storytelling skills in fluent Igbo and English.
- Strong video production skills, including self-shooting and editing for YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram.
- Familiarity with audience analytics, SEO best practices, metadata, and content optimization techniques.
