About the Role

Marconi.NG EPC Limited, operator of the iconic Rumuolumeni Fabrication Yard since 1999, is seeking a seasoned Industrial Relations Manager to safeguard industrial harmony across its expansive 1,000,000-square-meter facility. This role is central to Nigeria's oil and gas infrastructure legacy, ensuring seamless union relations, proactive dispute resolution, and full compliance with Nigerian labour laws while protecting operations from workforce and community-related risks.

As the Industrial Relations Manager, you will design and execute Marconi's IR strategy, manage collective bargaining processes, and serve as the critical link between Operations, Security, Legal, and the workforce. You will be the frontline defender against work stoppages, disciplinary inconsistencies, and labour disputes, ensuring a stable, high-performance environment that supports the company's continued excellence in EPC and heavy engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead union engagement and maintain strong, productive relationships with trade unions and worker representatives
  • Coordinate and negotiate Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs) in line with organisational and legal requirements
  • Monitor workforce sentiment and establish early warning systems to detect potential unrest
  • Manage site-level labour escalations and community labour dynamics with tact and urgency
  • Oversee consistency in disciplinary actions across the organisation
  • Coordinate workforce investigations, ensuring confidentiality, structure, and legal compliance
  • Provide operational guidance on labour law application across all sites
  • Develop and implement strike prevention and workforce stabilisation strategies
  • Ensure contractor workforce compliance with labour standards and company policy
  • Handle sensitive employee relations matters with discretion and professionalism
  • Collaborate closely with Operations, Security, and Legal teams on workforce risk matters
  • Monitor and report on EPC workforce risk indicators to senior leadership

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or HND in Human Resource Management, Industrial Relations, Law, Business Administration, Public Administration, Psychology, Social Sciences, or related field
  • Professional certification such as CIPM, SHRM, HRCI, CIPD, or equivalent
  • 8-10 years' experience in Industrial Relations, Labour Relations, or HR operations, including at least 5 years in a Lead or Managerial role within heavy engineering, construction, EPC, or Oil & Gas sectors
  • Proven success negotiating CBAs with national unions (e.g., CCESSA, NUCECFWW)
  • Demonstrated experience managing labour disputes, disciplinary tribunals, and workforce audits in high-pressure environments
  • Deep knowledge of the Nigerian Labour Act, Trade Unions Act, and National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) precedents
  • Strong crisis mitigation, grievance management, and stabilisation planning skills
  • Excellent stakeholder coordination with Operations, Security, and Legal teams
  • High emotional intelligence for conflict de-escalation and trust-building
  • Executive presence with calm, diplomatic communication style for C-Suite engagement
  • Unwavering ethical conduct and confidentiality in handling sensitive matters
